Would you Consider Making Money from your Runescape Blog?

There is no doubt that a lot of runescape bloggers blog just for the fun of it, but have any of you considered the possibilities of making real money from your runescape blog?

I am not talking about getting rich overnight, but rather have it pay for some of your expenses - like a cup of coffee and muffin once a week or perhaps even more, depending on how many visitors you get.

If you still feel alienated from what I say then consider this: by signing up (for free) to advertising networks like google adsense, refferral programs (get paid per sale or sign up), and putting those ads on your site or blog, you could be making money - aproximatively 5$ to 25$US for every 1'000 visitors that come to your runescape blog. So you could be getting various ammounts of income depending on how many people come to your blog - just do the math and you can already get an idea of about how much you would be earning.

I must mention also that not all blogs are ready to be monetized. If you have a blog on a wordpress domain or within a forum, they will not let you put ads or affiliate programs on it. Most likely, the owner of the forum already has ads on it and will not want any competition, so don't do it or you could wake up one morning and see that your blog may have dissapeared and account banned.

For this not to happen, I suggest that you use google's blogger/blogspot blogging platform. Your runescape blog will be safer there, and google has proved through out time to have a reliable blogging platform. It's free to use and you can have peace of mind, so long as you don't post any strong hatred, copyrighted stuff or malicious software (read their terms for details). But other than that, you can do just about anything - playing with your blog template's code, choose from jundreds of google pre-made templates on various sites, etc. You can also buy your own domain name (www.yourrunescapeblogname.com) through google's blogger platform for 10$ a year, and they will also host your blog for free.

If, for some reason, you prefer the Wordpress blogging platform and want your own domain name, you will also need to pay for webhosting apart from the domain name, which would make the bill rise from 40 to 100$ a year...personally I like having my blog on a  .blogspot.com adress (google's free blogger service).

Anyway, back to my main question for today - How would you feel about monetizing your passion/your runescape blog? And for those of you who don't have a runescape blog yet, would you be willing to start one with the idea of earning revenue from it?

I have no particular problem with putting an advert or two on a blog, I think most do it and accept it but I think it should be limited to the side and maybe at the bottom...

No one wants to see a banner at the top, adverts under every post, banners at the bottom of the pages and all the way down each side of them :p

By the way, what adsense have you got because I am only getting something ridiculous like 0.03 CPM which would allow me to get a beer in say, 6 months? lol

I had my blog at blogspot for a while when I first started out. I made a total of 25 cents over a few months of blogging, then moved to wordpress after buying a domain. I had that domain hosted with wordpress for a year (has it been that long?), and didn't renew the wordpress domain hosting. It was $10, and I can just direct the domain there for free anyway, so why bother.

I have that on my list though. **Move blog to my own server.** Adsense doesn't make you too much, there are a few posts about it, but I would be interested in some of the affiliate stuff out there. There are some very interesting services coming up for RS, and I think that they might actually generate blogging income.

Is anyone going to get rich of RS blogging? Heck no. It is a labor of love. I would like it to pay for the domain, hosting, and my monthly membership though.

Sparhawke - it would be best if you leave a google ad on top where your vote thing would be. A large portion of visitors will just leave your blog within less than 10 seconds, and that happens on any blog to a certain extent, no matter what. So give those uninterested visitors a chance to leave your blog through and ad... check out vaskors blog, he does it well. Furthermore, I would say, do not promote your blog on social media sites like twitter or facebook. Ive done it on another blog of mine and the pay per click rate will drop to 1-2 cents per click - horrible. So id say put one ad on top, perhaps poll on side instead of where it is now, and do not go about promoting your blog on facebook, twitter and stuff while having adsense on your site, or you will see horrible ppc - happened to me and commonly to most people who do this(leaving those share this buttons might be fine).

RS Economist - Get rich, probably not, but make a living from runescape blogging and writing content I would say certainly. Runescape is a big game and there is also a big market for runescape. I certainly think that a blog can get as popular as a fansite itself like sals realm, you just need a lot of content for everyone. And as far as making money is concerned, i suspect that the google ads that would bring in the most would be those real world trading ads - though you'll have to see for yourself what you like more - following the jagex rules like a puppet or making money... Id take the money

I am personally not as optimistic about monetizing RS blogs as you are. I am making about $7-10 per month from ads in the Reader's Digest - just enough to pay for Runewise hosting. Granted, I am blocking RWT ads (which would bring 2x-3x more money), I refused RWT companies advances when they offered me to put on paid RWT ads, and I am not a part of some big fan site or web sites network, so search ranks on "money" related keywords for the Reader's Digest are not high. So, unless something changes dramatically, I don't see any kind of serious money coming from my blog.

The reason why i dont put adsense on my blog is because it is too much. i feel like there is too much going on on my blog if i had ads and all that on it. i feel like it would confuse the readers. When i first began blogging, i thought that the ads where acually part of the blogs because they are similar to what theblog talked about. I'm just saying that i feel like its too much.
