Runescape 26k trick and 76k trick Disabled

Jagex has publicly announced today that the 76k trick has been officially disabled. Previously, the 26k trick in runescape was also disabled although it was never officially stated or acknowledged - or did they simply lower the drops so badly to the point where you get shitty drops no matter tricking or not? While on one side it's good that they brought it down because people were abusing it, but now legitimate pkers will be suffering from all this with lower drop values.

What is the 26k trick/76k trick in Runescape?

If you don't already know what it is or was, it is a situation in which two players take prearranged turns at killing each other in the scope of getting good drops and making a substantial profit. When you kill someone in a pvp world in runescape, chances are that you will not get exactly what he dropped. For a couple of months between in the first half of 2009, one would get much better drops in terms of value than what the dying player lost. Soon enough people realised that they could take this to their advantage, and make much more money with the 26k trick (for f2p) or 76k trick (for p2p) than they would make with traditional ways like mining, woodcuting, etc.

The trick itself would consist of going in a hotzone and killing your partner who would carry 26k in cash and nothing else, while yourself would be carying (and risking) items worth more than 26k.Usually the more valuable the items that you wore while killing your partner, the better drops you would usually get. The usual profit would be of 70k gp per kill for doing the trick in f2p, meaning that you would get seventhy thousand more gp worth of items on top of the 26k cash that you would also get! So one would expect to get around 96 -100k of items and sometimes more depending on his ep level so long as it would be higher than 10 or so. After the loot was taken then the partners would switch roles, killing eachother back and forth and thus making outstanding profit. *In p2p the trick would work even better and was the same principle except it had to be done with the 76k ammount instead. As of now the 26k trick and more recently, the 76k trick have been disabled, and it is not profitable anymore - you can try it if you want with a trustable but I don't recommend this since you will be wasting time and ep for getting nothing and possibly loosing money.

The Effects on Runescape from Removing the Trick

There are some consequences to what jagex did, good and bad. For one thing I guess is that the economy is more stable, but moreover people won't abuse the trick which caused a big insurgence in goods items and gold in runescape, slightly inflating the prices. Overall I expect overall prices to decrease slightly since people will have to go back to old money making techniques again.

Most importantly, this update will affect pkers, or just general pvp. But did the runescape officials really disable the 26k trick or did they lower the drops on ALL kills? I have myself seen lowered drops, and sometimes ridiculously low drops from worthy kills on free to play worlds. Not only do we pkers have to waste time getting ep up, but now we are getting ripped-off aswell. This ep and drop potential system has really become a burden for pkers.

So anyway, what do you think of all this - have you ever done the 26k trick or 76k trick? Are you happy that it was disabled at last? Or on the other hand, are you an angry pker?

So, I've been in a pvp world after the updates. And I high risk pk and kill people often with 5m+ gear. And of the last 3 kills I've had I koed a hybrid with 15m of gear - 200k loot, then another hybrid of about 6m gear - 400k loot, and finally another person with torags and whip and only got the legs off of having 84 ep and it dropped me to 22 ep... C'mon really? There drops are pretty crappy...

Thanks for the comment Jake, I feel you. Jagex seems to be more concerned over business issues and fixing the unfixable(real world trading) than the actual benefit of players. I am a pker Myself and find it hard to keep my pk habits going - nowadays there are more newbies and skillers in runescape, and less pkers and pking - which is supposed to be the purpose of this game. However if Jagex dosent try to fix it, then we players will have to come with our own ways of fixing it. G'day son
