Jagex has today introduced new magic spells on the member's worlds (p2p version of Runescape). They are 4 high level spells, available on the "regular" or what they call "modern" spell book.
Wind Surge - 81 magic required - 75 basic magic xp - 22 damage
Water Surge - 85 magic required - 80 basic magic xp - 24 damage
Earth Surge - 90 magic required - 85 basic magic xp - 26 damage
Fire Surge - 95 magic required - 90 basic magic xp - 28 damage
I think that this is great news for mages and hybrids pkers alike, especially for those who do not like the "ancients" spellbook. Now I'd say that the regular spellbook is fairly complete for p2players. It contains useful "stopping" spells like snare and entangle, the handy teleblock spell and now some very convenient high damaging spells.
While the 3 arena spells were also good and powerful, they are not convenient for hybrids, or pkers/pures with several attacking styles.
Furthermore, they also updated how magic potions would work, so that when you drink some, it will raise your maximum hit. Also, changed how runecrafting works, so one would get a little more runes when runecrafting. This should be excellent for f2p players as magic will be more affordable for them. How do you like this update? And stay tuned - a new breakthrough magic guide will be released soon!

Runescape Classic Temporarily Re-opens!!
W0W It is Official!!! - Runescape Classic has now been temporarily reopened for a two week period for subscribing RuneScape members! If players access RSC (Runescape classic) during the two-week period (with their username and password), they will have the privilege to continue playing Classic AFTER the period is over!
This is possibly the best update of the year. Remember that there are many players that are unhappy about the wilderness/pvp changes and nerfing of drops in the modern version of Runescape. On the other hand, the pvp aspects of runescape classic have remained as they were - when you kill someone you get what that player had! This aspect alone could bring in a lot of more players.
For myself I have happily joined RSC with my members account, and things seem really great. Here are some of the main differences between the two versions of the gam;
Runescape Classic: No grand exchange, The old combat system where you would fight for "three rounds", trading is somewhat harder, money is harder to make in classic and gold is much more valuable. There are no trading limits either. The whole game, including the wilderness seems to be based more on 1vs1 fighting rather than multi fighting which I also like. One can also duel someone anywhere in the game except falador - you see the "duel" option in the same line where you see "trade" and "follow" options. Note that one account's stats in runescape2 are not transferable to runescape classic, meaning that you have to start over with level 3. Other than that, you might get a little shocked to see the difference in graphics, but I already got used to it and love it - especially when gp is more valuable and best of all, when the good old wilderness there.
Some final tips before starting; you might want to make a pure of some sort - remember that you can only have one account on classic if you started out, and you won't be able to make another one before jagex re-opens runescape classic (which might take some time) unless you pay more subscriptions to start new accounts within the two week period. So making a runescape classic pure might be fun, and perhaps you should consider it if you plan to be active in the wilderness.
Mark Gerhard (Mod MMG) has stated at an earlier date that a new server of RSC could be brought back for all players to enjoy, but the time for this is unknown, and could take a while. So I strongly suggest for existing members that you log in to Runescape Classic within that two-week period (until november 25th 2009) to secure your RSC account, while non-subscribers should consider getting a subscription just for that month in order to secure you account - as you never know WHEN or even IF Runescape Classic will once again be available for all to enjoy. Have a good one!
