Introducing The Lava Maze Lure

When you go p-king, do you go to rune rocks in level 46 wilderness? If you have then you know how thrilling it gets! It's thrilling because you often find yourself involved in do-or-die situations! This post though is about discussing a new luring method at the lava maze. Take a look at the map on the right;

The Lava Maze
By the way, to get things cleared, it does not involve luring holiday rare items. Though, if you do it right and on busy worlds, you should get a consistent amount of kills, and that adds up.

Do you see the Blue spot on the map?? That is where all, or most of the action starts at. The valuable rune ores to be mined (right at the blue spot) attracts plenty of pkers on the lookout for a miner. This spot can be often populated, especially on busy worlds like world 3 or 1 (the most competitive ones though). This lure requires you to have at least on friend, or your other account to be standing there.

Combat level requirement : Works at a wide range of combat levels. If lower combat, consider bringing some magic. Also, this trick works slightly better at low & mid combat levels (combat 20 to 70)

So bring an account on that green dot with fancy armor. You can have him wear almost any fancy armor, be it full rune in gold or trimmed or golden green dragon hide. My favorite would be fancy (g) or (t) mage robes. Maging is easier and more fun. With magic you can bind people over the river, attack them, you can telegrab food or items on the ground... think about it!

So your job is is simple in itself. You will simply stand there and serve as an 'apetizer' for people that are on the other side of the river. Your fancy armor will draw their attention. If it doesn't, then mage them, or range them!  (depending on what you're using). Trust me, a good bunch of people will be raging while you are wasting their food and will just go find you provided they have a weapon with slashing weapon.

If they are a pure, or if they have low defence, they will most likely run through the lava maze, not wanting to get hit by the dark knights -- and they hit pretty hard on 1 def by the way. And let me tell you ; by the time they get to successfully slash the webs (while getting attacked by knights) waste food, run back and forth the maze trying to find the path leading to you, they will be half dead already. Imagine someone coming to you that is half dead and no run left -- it's a dream scenario. But let me tell you that many players loose judgement when motivated by greed. On top of that, the webs will start closing soon, and they will need to re-slash them, if they even make it there.

But what if the person does get to you and have full food because he/she has good defence? Then fight that person till you die on your appetizer account, and log right back in on a second account that you will have brought there. You should be able to finish the job.

Another method to lure
Also another way to do it (works better if you've got good defence), would be to find someone, have him attack you and then run all the way to where the green dot on the map is. Then, turn on him for a fight. If you have half food left, and some good pvp skills then you should be comfortable enough to take him out on your second account waiting there.

Comments, Ideas, Opinions, Wilderness meet ups and the like are always welcome... Good night everyone!

Examples of Good Pure Stats

It takes time and effort to build up a good pure, seconds to mess it up and just a little time to plan it. Follow on to see what good runescape stats resemble like!

Back in the days that I started playing (around 2002-2003) , pures were rare. They were made for one purpose and one only - to kill an enemy in the shortest amount of time (less than 10-15 seconds) before they could run to safety.

Traditional Rs2 HybridPictured Here: A traditional rs2 pure hybrid.
Max hit with range: 13.6  Scimitar:19.3 R2h: 23.4
In this case it has 1 def and prayer, 80 magic, 80 range, 80 strength, and 40 attack with 78 hp at a combat level of 58 (any more level makes it 59).

Traditional rs2 pures were 1 prayer and 1 defence. The mentallity of creating one was clear; Maximum attacking performance at the lowest possible combat level. People would never fight you back, and you would be attacking most of the time.

This setup is now rarely used now, but it is my favorite. What I like is that you never have to worry about going out of prayer points. If you are going in deep wilderness then you don't have to worry about altars. Also, you are not tied up on wearing monk robes to make prayer last more. And wearing monk robes is a disadvantage too, especially when using range or magic. Prayer is not friendly and can be a bit of a hassle for hybriding, ex. range maging or doing the range to rune2h combo. With 1 prayer, you also have much better chances at winning in duelling since most people tick prayer OFF on the duelling rules box.
However, the disadvantage is that from 80 range and 80 strenght and going up, you will hit slightly lower against those with the same combat level as you.
--------------------------

runescape 1 def strength pureNow this is the same setup, again with 58 combat, but without the hitpoints that range gives you when training (73 hitpoints instead of 78).
Rune Scimitar max hit: 20.0  R2h:24.3
The 4 hitpoints save you enough combat levels to attain 84 strength. In this scenario, it's assumed that you've trained magic in ways that doesn't give xp. If you train your pure in p2p however, you could get 83 range in this scenario without any hitpoints.

In this case, you have high strength and magic. You can use magic as magic defence or to have fun in the deep wilderness. However range and mage becomes more handy in those situations.

-------------------------------

Range/Mage Hybrid
A Range/Mage pure maxed for 58 combat.
Ranged Max hit: 14.1
Range/Mage is an ideal combination in the deep levels of wilderness like at greater demons or rune rocks and it's a ton of fun. No melee means that you can not go edgeville pking with range/2h which is also fun. In edgeville, you won't get kills without 90 range or more. The upside is that you can level your range and magic higher.

Range/Mage pures were the first choice of pures in early rs2, before pures got common. 40 attack pures were later added to counter these, though range is still king in both f2p and p2p when it comes to damage per second.
-------------------------------

A modern strength pure. You can find lots of them at edgeville.
Max hit with rune scimitar: 20.9  With 2h: 25.4
If trained in f2p without range, then you always save a full two combat levels (8 hitpoints). In this example, you save 7 hitpoints. From here, some decide to get 34 prayer, giving 0.375 extra combat levels, but adding 6 attack. This prayer will last 1 minute 49 seconds when activated or around two minutes 45 seconds with monk robes on (cut that in half if both prayers are activated). 31 prayer gives 3.75 combat levels, and will definitely disadvantage someone in staking. For instance, these stats are good for edgeville pking.

Still at 58 combat, this is a hybrid with 43 prayer.
Range Max hit: 142.4, with Scimitar: 19.8 With R2h: 24.1
Note that I've put 75 magic with 73 range but it can have up to 75 range and still be at 58 combat if trained in p2p. Though if in f2p, as soon as it would hit 74 range, the hitpoints will make the character bump up to 69 constitution and setting the account at 59 combat.

Now 43 prayer gives exactly 5.25 extra combat levels from 1, and 1.5 more combat levels from 34. When using the spell protect from melee, it will last exactly 2 minutes and 29 seconds. The spell eagle eye, will last 2 minutes 26 seconds, and both combined will last 1 minute 14 seconds. Add about 8 seconds to that with a power ammy (4 if both prayers are on). Protection prayers can definitely help in the higher levels of the wilderness if your opponent is fighting back, or if a high level or clan is after you. The downside is that prayer is not permanent. If you enjoy going solo pking at the rune rocks though, there is an altar in level 32 wilderness, not that far south.

The same as above, except without attack and prayer to cut down on training time and also a couple of hitpoints (if you are f2p).
Max ranged hit: 13.0
Note again that if you're p2p though and don't mind training more, then you can get the melee stats without hitpoints.

Obby Mauler, are also called 1 attack pure at times. They have high pure stats considering their extremely low combat level.
Max hit with Obsidian Maul : 28.5
The thing to keep in mind for this kind of pure -and I'd say all other pures too, but especially more this one - is to keep hitpoints low in order to fight the weakest players possible and who have the lowest hitpoints level. Obby Maulers are effective at very low combat levels. The higher they get in combat, the less effective they become. You can start doing very well as soon as you hit 60 strength and that will be the time where you will be the most effective. So go player-killing right away!

Try achieving 60 strenght with 15 hp (23 combat) as you will have a max hit of 28.5! , that means you can one hit your opponents! these stats would be even better for pking! At 23 combat, most pures have around 22 hitpoints, and mains, if you can find some, have even less! A max hit of 28.5 coupled with a target of 18 to 24 hp in most cases leaves you with a generous margin of error! It won't be easy to get it to 60 strength without hitpoints. Try doing quests that give high strength and then soul wars. Also, do not max your range level, leave it many levels below because it will level up fast while player-killing.

Other Accounts with good Stats Build

These are pretty much the best choices of pures with the best possible levels that I can think through. 52 prayer "pures"  and higher prayer, or pures with very high attack have been ommitted because they don't do well against the opposition for their given combat levels. Other good accounts to consider for pvping but not pures, would be range tanks with 40 def 80+ range and 1 or 43 prayer. Use them in the deep levels of the wilderness.

So this is about it. Always plan your stats before investing time and energy into a new account. I use the combat calculators from scape-xp to plan my stats.

That's about it. If you can come up with another idea, let me know and I will probably add it on the list. Any questions are welcome & feel free to discuss what you like and prefer, what you hate, etc... Cheers !

How to Get the First Hit in Staking [PID]

It’s become common knowledge now amongst duellers, that when two opponents of equal combat stats and equipment are having a duel, the one who will be the first to hit the other will tend to win more often.

Getting the first hit was meant to be “random” to runescape players. However it is not …let me explain.

When you log in to Runescape, your character is assigned a personal identification number (or “PID”). This number can range anywhere from 1 to 2000. You can think of it as a “luck factor” or even a “priority number”. The lower that number is, the “luckier” and more prioritized you become.

So your PID, or “luck factor” as I like to call it, is implicated with many things. For instance, when clicking on a balloon in the party room at the same time as somebody else, the game engine will give priority to the player with the lowest PID. Another example would be when a player casts the telekenetic grab spell, say on wines of zammorack, in same time as another player. The player with the lowest PID will always get it – even if you see that the motion of casting the spell appears to be in same time. Your PID, or priority/luck factor level will tell the game engine to give you the wine. So whichever player is having the lowest PID WILL get the wine. This concept is applied in many areas of the game, including player-killing in the wilderness, dueling/staking and more.

When you start a duel and the screen displays the [3-2-1-go] before the fight, it will not matter how fast you will have spam clicked your opponent. Simply, the one with the lowest PID will get the first hit, and usually the overall highest hits as well.

So before a stake, If you know that your player identification number is lower than that of your opponent, you will get a guaranteed first hit and an improved chance to win the fight. In Runescape 2, unlike runescape classic, you cannot see the exact PID number (In RSC, you could look at Java source code).

So you can only know if your PID is higher or lower than your opponen'ts (but that's well enough to get a first hit anyway). So here are two tricks that are easy to do and that WORK.

Trick #1 Ask your opponent to follow you - tell him you're going to a place with less lag. Now as he follows you, observe the way he follows you. If he trails behind, the he's got a higher PID than you, and hence you should get the first hit. If he follows you up tight, he will be the one to get the first hit. Observe in the vid below;

 If he follows you up tight, you might want to have a small stake with him, since he will get the first hit. Once you've staked him once, you may ask him to switch to another world (Switching worlds will reset PIDS for both of you). As a trick, you can tell him for instance that you would like to go to a world with less lag... it's up to you.

Before heading towards the duel arena, you can test out your PID with a friend. If yours is too high, then log out and back in. If you then get a lower PID than your friend, have him log out and back in till he can beat you again. Repeat untill you feel you have a good enough PID.

Method #2 You can also simply duel with your friend for fun and have him log back and in and yourself aswell untill you feel you have a good PID. You may also verify this by doing telekenetic grab over an object with your friend and see who gets it first though the easiest method would be the first one. Just thought about giving you options.

Theories and observations;
Me and you are not the engineers who made the game engine but the best we can do is to support each other with theories and experiences to perfect ourselves. Please add your own observations in the comments section so we can better master this PID system. Here are two of mine;

#1 PID seems to change after about 30 minutes and 2 hours of being logged on
#2  When fighting against an opponent in a duel several times in a row, the first hit is sometimes alternated between one another. HOWEVER, I have felt that even if you have the higher PID and by a rare occasion you hit second, you still seem to get the stronger(luckier) hits and usually catch up really well.
#3 I have felt at times that after logging on, your PID will usually improve after a little time spent logged on and not go down. (Still a theory by all means).

If you have any observations or theories of your own, please leave them in the comments section. Now good luck on making money staking with your new trick. Some people already rely on this and gained millions with this trick. Please come here to report back your wins! Now that's it for today guys, I'm out!

Top 5 Staking Tips for Serious Stakers

Okay, so far it's been about 16-17 days that staking re-appeared. I've started this staking game with a total of 667k raw trout, around 1 million in cash, and 13k pie dishes along with other items. Ive started with ~15 million gold. During this short time-span, I've went from around 15 million worth to 19 million, then dropping to 16 million, then all the way down to 20k in items (almost broke) to completely broke. Then I've came back to 22 million before finally falling down completely to 700k in cash and items (my current money as of writing this).

Loosing 15 million is not a big deal though. I'm gratefull for the staking experience gained. Here are my top 5 best staking tips that any wealth-aspiring staker should put these in application;

1. Get good stats; There's no denial that carefully planned stats make you win. Your character's levels are permanent, and you can't go back once you've got one. Make sure to keep 1 prayer if possible, as 95% of people stake with prayer turned off. Having level 1 prayer truly saves you from gaining unecessary combat levels (and put you to an advantage against those who do got more than 1, but check 'off' this option from the staking screen - which is most often the case). Other levels to be warry of include excessive attack or defence (arguably). When planning out your stats, make sure to use your favorite combat calculator. If you don't know what are good stats to have or not, make sure to ask in the comments and I'll give you some feedback wether I think they'd be good or not ;). I've been in pvp for 7-8 years so I know what I'm doing.

2. Learn to negotiate your stakes and say NO; Negotiating your bets and be able to say NO to risky conditions or risky opponents is an important ability that will directly impact your cash stack. To give you an example, I've been loosing significant money while almost being maxed out for my combat level (81 range 80 str, 80 magic 76 hp, 1 prayer 1 defence) with 58 combat [1 constitution level and 1 strenght and magic level away from maxed].  This was due in part because I was staking others who had very similar stats as myself, or even slightly higher and offered no real advantage in battling against. The cause was of frustration of finding no one to stake.

3. Stake only if you have an advantage (stat-wise); With some luck, you can make some quick gp staking people that have the same levels and stats as you, but on the long run, staking small to medium amounts of gp against people weaker than you (even slightly weaker) is what will make you win in the long-run (and keep  you from going broke). You need to have the power upon yourself to systematically refuse staking people that are higher combat, even if you have been looking for an opponent for ages without luck.

4. Do not stake if frustrated, or feel for revenge; As said earlier, runescape can be a frustrating game. If you loose your cool, do not stake! Take some time off and head to the wilderness, or better yet - do some personal projects, homework, or other real-life related tasks until you feel fresher. Exercising is also good for tension-relief.

5. Stake a little more when you have been assigned luck (often are the first one to hit);

Update : Learn how to get the first hit in a stake (and have luck). Just updated this. First hits are associated with "having luck" and winning more often.

In runescape, 'real luck' does not really exist. If you've noticed, "luck" is rather assigned ranging from various degrees from high to low - let's say 0 to 100. I've noticed that when you are in a duel and you do the first hit, you will get higher hits throughout the duel than you'd normally do, and more often. I also remember reading somewhere that in runescape classic, the luck factor was displayed on the page source code, but that in runescape2/hd, it is completely hidden.

You can verify your luck by seeing who gets items first (despite clicking in same time) using telekenetic grab with friends, or just have some 'fun duels' with different people no matter their combat level, just to see who hits first. If you've duelled for fun with several players and have been able to hit first on most or a big portion of them, then it means that you've been assigned considerable luck.

Furthermore, I highly suspect that the more time you are logged in the game, your luck tends to get trickled up (but not always). This is from what I recall in my zammorack wine telegrabbing experience; the telegrabbers who used to stay logged in longer in a world used to be the ones who were able to get the wine first. I am 100% sure that there is a luck factor involved. I recount even when I used to systematically loose in stakes against the same one opponent who won around 10 million from me; two days later I was not only beating him systematically, but doing so with big margins ex.easily winning. And as a matter of fact, I had cleaned this guy his 17 million - giving him back 1 so he could start somewhere.

If you think that you've been assigned luck, you can increase your stakes slightly. From my own experience, good luck is worth up to 2-3 extra combat levels (from my point of view, and I am level 58 combat). So remember that a good idea before fighting an opponent for a large sum of money, would be to estimate your luck (and his!). You may duel him a smaller amount first for instance, to see who has been assigned more luck.

So that's about it for now. I will add more tips when I can find. But what are your own staking tips? Right now, I'm sure I've missed a good couple, please let us know so we can discuss it or if you want me to add them on the list. With some more, I will make a full guide. Cheers !

Beginner's F2p Range Pure Guide

Ever-since runescape 2 came out in 2004, the popularity of range pures never stopped increasing, and for good reason; A properly made range pure will put up a fight and win (with good strategy) against mostly anyone of similar combat level. Whether you are a beginner or have been playing on pures forever, you will most likely learn something new from this guide; from creating a range pure and planning his stats, to the best training spots, how to save time and make money on your pure aswell as some of my personal pvp strategies/tactics, and other cool random tips.

Definition of A Range Pure; For those who wouldn’t know, a range pure is an account specializing in ranged, training it to high levels while keeping levels such as defence, prayer and summoning to a minimum (often 0) in order to become super aggressive and dangerous all the while having the lowest possible combat level.

Overview

As with other pures, range pures rely on the principle that the best defence is the offence; If you are attacking and your opponent is eating, then your defence levels are not playing any role towards beating your opponent. Instead of getting defence, I suggest you invest into more offensive levels [ranged] and become even more aggressive and dangerous at a relatively low combat level. Here’s a couple of facts;

-Your range level counts towards both range accuracy and range strength bonus (how accurately and how high you hit). This is not the case with melee levels for instance, where both attack and strength need to be leveled.
-Rangers have the advantage of attacking from a distance. They can use this to get an extra hit or two against meleers, or even attack safely from behind a fence or bridge.
-Equipement/Gear for range pures consists mostly of light armor and weapons. This becomes very useful for running away or chasing someone when pking (player-killing) in a pvp world as you will have more running energy.
-The attacking process is very accurate and reliable; it deals a small but consistent amount of damage each time.
-Range yields good results when combined (hybriding) with either magic or melee (or even the three in same time) – [more on this later].
-In most circumstances, Range Pures do tend to win versus strenght pures.
-R-Pures do not have any major weaknesses; they can take on just about anyone
-Cons; Arrows can sometimes be annoying to pick-up, and can also get expensive if not careful.

Choosing a Name

I find it better to just use any normal name you'd like, and not the regular ''xx owned'' type of name that most pures seem to use. The advantage of getting a regular character name is twofold; First, people will sometimes underestimate your fighting abilities and not run away as much, which can get you more kills. Secondly, it gets pretty annoying to have people always call you ''hey xx owned'' or whatever other geeky pure name you come up with. My tip is to choose a name that you like. Further down the road, you can  have the option to change your name provided you become a paying p2p member.

Equipement for a Range Pure

When you start off with lvl 1 range, head to the grand exchange. I suggest that you buy the following items to give you a solid head start;
  • (1-20 range) Leather chaps, leather vambraces, leather cowl, leather body, boots, all available shortbows, a power amulet and a cape of your choice (if you want one). This set of items will kickstart your range training and give you a small accuracy boost.
  • (20-39 range) you can change the leather cowl for a coif and leather chaps for studded chaps.
  • (40 range) When you achieve 40 range, you can upgrade your chaps and vambraces to the dragonhide version and upgrade your bow to a maple shortbow.
  • Arrows; As for training arrows, you can choose any from bronze to mithril depending on if you’re aiming at training speed or money saved. For myself, I find that bronze arrows work out just fine for the price.
You can also get the Sighted Maple Longbow obtained from Dungeoneering if you wish, but in my opinion it is not totally worth it. After several tests, I see that it takes slightly more time to train with the sighted longbow than the regular maple shortbow.

Making Money As a Range Pure

Gotta find a way to fund all those arrows eh? When checking out other f2p range pure guides, I've found that almost all of these tell you to start training a new non-combat skill from scratch, like woodcutting, mining, or others...In my opinion this way of doing is totally wrong! First, training ranged already takes up an incredible ammount of time, and secondly you will make back your money and more from the loot of the monsters that you train on. That's right, training range makes you money in most cases, on top of receiving the range xp that you crave for. If you do need money at the very start, then make sure that you complete stronghold of security mini-quest which will give you 10k gold. That should be more than enough to buy all your armor and then some arrows. From there on, simply make your money while training range. Of course some range training spots make more gold than others while giving you less range xp per hour, and vice-versa - more on this in the next chapter.

Once that you have bought the necessary equipment, it is time to train. Set some goals and discipline yourself to train an x amount of hours every day or week. Don’t set too high goals, but rather a series of small achievable goals… Stay realistic!

Suggested Range Training Spots

Cows 1-15
Starting off, you can head to the cow place just south of the falador east bank. There you have set yourself a perfect ground for starting up your range training. Each cow you kill gives a cowhide, raw beef and bones, which altogether are worth more than 300 gp at the grand exchange (as of writing this). Another cow spot is located in Lumbridge but is further from the bank and usually more crowded. Lastly, there is another cow spot north-east of Lumbridge and with a bank nearby.

Men near edgeville bank  1-15
This is also a very good spot for early training. There is a house fully packed of level 3 men just north of the Edgeville bank. They have lower defense than cows and also have a quick respawn rate. Training here is faster, however you can make more money at cows.

Hill Giants
Although Hill Giants have low defense and drop big bones which are valuable, the area is almost always crowded. Most people use this spot as to make money rather than gaining combat experience. Think of the range xp as a nice bonus that you wouldn't have gotten by skilling for instance. For fast xp, train elsewhere.

Minautors  15-30
Minautors (level 12 and 27) have low defence and carry 100 and 220 hitpoints respectively, which make it an ideal range training spot. Head to barbarian village and climb down the ladder in the middle of the rocks to reach the stronghold of security. Then cross the doors through south-east. You should now see the level 17 minotaurs, and be able to range them from behind the fence. They drop a generous amount of iron arrows and noted items that you should pick up. Bringing some trout will be useful, although you can stand behind the fence as well.

Hobgoblins 30-60
The hobgoblin spot next to moss giants in Varock is little known. You can access this spot by entering the small house south of the grand-exchange, right next to the cooking guild by using a brass key. Once you are in it, climb down the ladder and head west till you see them. This spot is largely unknown to most. Hobgoblins carry a decent (280) hitpoints level and drop limpwut roots once in while (worth more than 2k gold each). See the picture for safespots. Use this training spot to cruise your way through 60 range.

Moss Giants 50+
These are the green giants that are commonly found in the varock sewers. It is a crowded spot though. The best place to train on moss giants is the spot in Crandor island, which is rarely populated. Moss Giants have a reasonable 60hp, drop big bones as well as other items that are good to cast high alchemy on. This would be the ideal spot for a range pure that wants to train his prayer up along with range. The only downside though is that to access crandor island, you will have to go halfway through dragon slayer in order to access this spot as well as have 32 quest points to start dragon slayer.

Ankous 60 +
Ankous located at the stronghold of security are level 82 combat and have 60 and 70hp. The area is rarely crowded. Ankous are abundant and they have a fast respawn rate… Plus they have a relatively low defence level, making for a pretty fast training spot. Drops are also pretty good. I suggest that you bring lobsters or better food, since you have to wait around 15 minutes for them to become un-aggressive, and thereafter have a veritable safespot. Take a look at this video for instructions on where to locate the safespot. You can decide to stay here till 99, but there are a few more options;

Lesser Demons 63+
Back in the days, Lesser Demons in Karamja were the most common monsters to train on from 63 range and onwards. Lesser demons (lvl82) carry 79 hitpoints. They seem to have slightly more defence than ankous, but the higher hitpoints level is a tradeoff that allows for surfing and multitasking while training. At 70 range, you should average around 30-35k range experience per hour using bronze arrows.

Greater Demons 75+
Standing at 87 hp, and with slightly better drops, Greater Demons are like the "upgrade" of lesser demons. There are two spots for these; at level 47 wilderness (bring a few lobsters in-case you see revenants) and in the volcano crater where you can range them behind the rocks. The drops are slightly better than that of lesser demons.

Hellhounds 60+
Hellhounds look like red dogs, and are found in the volcano crater within the wilderness. They have a whooping 116 hitpoints level and are accompanied by a surprisingly low defence level! Plus it rarely gets crowded, very few people know this spot. The only minor cons to be noted are;

1.      Hellhounds do not drop anything and
2.      It takes around a good 30 seconds for one of these tospawn, so perhaps you can bring something to do during that time (perhaps high alching, superheating or even some crafting). Or worst case scenario, you can do some homework or other non-runescape stuff during that time.

Despite these two small inconvenients, hellhounds remain nonetheless a top range training destination for pures. Tip; When you attack, most hellhounds usually retreat and then come back at you in order to prevent from using a safespot. However, there is one hellhound I have found to stand still, located at level 20 wilderness in the volcano crater (located at the entry of the west crater). This one does not retreat, so simply stand behind the rock and range it.

To get prayer or not to get?
In the past, there was no range-boosting prayers, there were only prayers for melee. People would stay at 1 prayer. Nowadays, there's a prayer for each combat class prayer is running popular on ranged pures. Number-wise, every 8 prayer levels accounts for 1 combat level. The three ranged prayers are;
  1. Sharp Eye [level 8]: Increases ranged by 5%. It has a drain rate of 1 point per 12 seconds (will last approximately 1minute 36 seconds)
  2. Hawk Eye [level 22]: Increases ranged by 10%. The prayer has a drain rate of 1 point per 6 seconds (that would come down to last 2minutes 36 seconds)
  3. Eagle eye [level 44]: Has a drain rate of 1 point per 6 seconds (would last 2 minutes 12 seconds)
So there's always always a compromise into getting prayer or not. Prayer gives you more combat levels and ranging power but on the other hand, it is not permanent. It's mostly a matter of personal choice, so see for yourself if it's worth it or not. One thing for sure though is that once you get it, you can't go back.

Ever wondered what you could hit with adamant arrows in PvP or bronze arrows for training? Well here’s a graph that shows you your max hit from levels 30 to 99. These are without prayer.

PvP techniques and Strategies

Range pures tend to deal a significant amount of damage on a consistent basis. Your scope will be to remain aggressive and stay on the offensive, keeping your enemy busy eating so that he does not even get the chance to switch from eating to attacking!

Before venturing in PvP, make sure that your computer won't CRASH in the middle of the action. For reference, you might want to check out a couple of tips to reduce lag in runescape.

Always bring the best equipement and gear you can. You won't achieve much fun with mediocre gear.

Bring good food; Even if you are on a tight budget, cheap food will cost you more money, resources and time on the long run…trust me on this one, or you’ll learn it the hard way like myself!! For alternatives, look at wine instead of tuna (watch out for clicking empty jugs) and similar swaps or check if there’s a good deal on the grand exchange but really, think twice before buying cheap food with a low healing rate for your combat level.

Eat food properly; A proper eating technique is of crucial importantance if you want to go far in pvp. The better flow you have between healing effectively and attacking, the better the chances to stay on the attack and win. Do not eat solely one piece of food at a time, but rather in groups of 3 or more. For instance, you can eat the first piece of food without your opponent noticing; As you get low on food and right as your bow starts to lift up, click on a piece of food. What will happen is that you will have eaten a piece of food and restored your hitpoints while shooting an arrow and causing damage in the same time. Your character will perform the shooting action, not the eating one. After performing this action, I suggest you heal another 2 food or more than that as needed.

Choose the right P-king spots; I can't hide the fact that without 80+ range, finishing an opponent with range alone and by yourself might be tricky. If you want to get any kind of loot, you need to be at the right places, and that usually means far away from safespots. What happens usually when you just hang around the grand exchange, or close to other safespots is that your fellow opponents will just run to safety when low on food. You will do much better off for instance by going into low-crowded areas, and attack other players there, as there will be much more running to do, plus can even find skillers and travelers to pick on - cool targets that are not quite ready to fight!

Some new Guides comming up!

A few months ago, back in 2009, I had started to write down on paper a small bunch of guides on pures and their training, as well as other Wilderness / PvP tips and guides. But these were lost partially in my room.

Well I recently cleaned up my room and have found those guides back as well as some motivation (thanks to someone in rs pushing me to publish them) to rewrite them from paper to word processor.

When I jumped into the world of making pures 5-6 years ago (roughly weeks after I discovered rs), I did have some tips here and there from inexperienced people - but not solid advice to do it successfully. After all, creating and training a new account is a huge investment in time. I learned it the hard way. With more than 4-5 different accounts (and counting), as well as several years of training, seeing and pking, I will shortly be starting a series of posts sharing my personal thoughts on pvp/wilderness tactics, most efficient pure types and setups, pking spots and more. Coming to a blog near you... Stay tuned!
